Challenging Behaviour

Supporting children and young people with challenging behaviours requires skill, understanding, and compassion. At Struttons House, we believe that behaviour is communication, a reflection of unmet needs, unspoken emotions, or past experiences. Our care model focuses on understanding those underlying causes, not punishing or controlling behaviour.

We provide safe, structured environments where young people can explore emotions, develop self-awareness, and learn healthy coping strategies. Our team is trained in Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) and trauma-informed practice, allowing them to respond calmly, safely, and constructively in moments of crisis.

Every care plan is developed collaboratively, with input from social workers, therapists, and family members. We focus on creating stability and consistency, helping children build trust and confidence in both themselves and the adults around them. Over time, this structure allows behaviours to shift naturally as young people feel seen, understood, and empowered.

Through daily routines, reflective work, and meaningful relationships, we help each young person rebuild self-esteem and discover new ways of expressing themselves. Our ultimate aim is to transform difficult behaviours into personal growth, resilience, and hope for the future.
